Detecting exoplanet oceans

By now the detection of extrasolar planets has almost become routine. And in addition to discovering many, many so-called Hot Jupiters, planets that are too close to their stars to harbor life as we know it, astronomers have continued to refine their planet-hunting techniques and believe there may be a few exoplanets that could be Earthlike, or that have water vapor in their atmospheres.

But could astronomers also detect liquid oceans? A recently published paper thinks the answer may be yes.
