What does an interdisciplinary "best of" list look like? It might look like Creative Generalist's 2005 year end idea round up. A sampling:
- Plenitude. Diversity and old categories.
- Massive change and how design increasingly informs systems thinking.
- Growing emphathy. Emotional health makes for good decisions.
- Knowing what you don't know. Success means having a firm grasp of our deficiencies.
In addition to trying to point out the interesting and new, the ideaFestival's madate is to think a little bit about thinking -- how, in other words, to "school the imagination." Discovery often depends on connecting previously disconnected ideas.
Steve Hardy makes a good case for generalism as discovery method. In other words, don't go deep. Go wide.
He's also authored the ChangeThis manifesto, How Broad Thinking Leads to Big Ideas.
