Wilson's Life Encyclopedia now online

Diego Rodriguez points out that biologist E.O. Wilson's TED Prize wish is on its way to being realized in the form of the Encyclopedia of Life, a virtual place with a vision statement that doesn't suck:

Imagine an electronic page for each species of organism on Earth available everywhere by single access on command.

Because it might discern previously unrecognized patterns, the FAQ describes the project as a "macroscope" with potentially great impact on fields such as comparative biology and ecology.
