"Goodbye Gutenberg"

Putting People First links to the Harvard Nieman Report, Goodbye Gutenberg, on journalism's bumpy digital transition. There are quite a number of articles, but the first, "Caught in the Web," suggests that perhaps the Web has arrived just at the right time to re-engage a generation that has abandoned newspapers and hints at far larger travels.

With the Web, we could be witnessing the mostimportant development in expressive media since the advent of writing. One exciting if disruptive possibility is that... the Internet will usher in a new era of interactive, audiovisual literacy. Though written words will remain critical to human communication, it's likely they will no longer dominate in the exchange of news and information.
