Design inside out and outside in

Functioning Form rounds up some of the thought at a Core77 meeting on design strategy and innovation. MIT Media Lab professor John Maeda, one of the panelists, maintains a blog on the simplicity, a theme that figures prominently in interaction design.

Like cognitive psychology, interaction design lives at the intersection of science and the humanities, which is one reason why I'm interested in the subject. Both disciplines seek to understand the functioning of our wet ware in a complex world - in the case of cognitive psychology, from the inside out, and in the case of interaction design, from the outside in.
