Pasta&Vinegar references "symbol analysts," the workers who will prosper in economies to come. According to Nicolas Nova, the term is derived from Robert Reich's book The Work of Nations. Nicolas calls it a metaphor for the "modern worker," like the financial analyst, who "who [can] identify, solve and broker problems by manipulating symbols/knowledge."
But Broker? Nicolas also links to a passage from the Charles Stross science fiction novel Accelerando! describing the perils of a being meme broker, a person for whom money is specific to poverty. The booklist review at Amazon describes the protagonist as a "venture altruist."
