Pine-Sol theory

In the Tipping Point Malcolm Gladwell wrote about his belief that fewer broken windows contributed in part to the reduction of crime in New York City during the 1990's, a point disputed by Freakonomics authors Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner.

In March Gladwell discussed their differences in his blog.

The Broken Window theory was my first thought when Cognitive Daily posted Smells Like Clean Spirit last weekend, which points out research associating scent with nonconscious behavior.

My second thought: if it'll get my sons to clean their room, break out the Pine-Sol.
