Artful science, visual goal

Can the science community keep students interested in science with imagery? Science photographer Felice Frankel wants to elevate science image to the rank of science text. According to the design site Core77:

In Envisioning Science: The Design and Craft of the Science Image, she suggests that the methods scientists use in representing visual data should be fully documented, just as those for gathering non-visual data are. It's time that graphics and images are taken just as seriously as explanation with text, Frankel says.

The image is ferrofluid on a glass slide over a sheet of yellow paper. Small circular magnets distort the 3-cm drop.
