Continuing the tradition of physicists and cosmologists who have spoken at the IdeaFestival, CalTech theoretical physicist and author of "From Eternity to Here," Sean Carroll, talked about Big Ideas at IF 2010.
In his case, Carroll described the intimate connection between time and nature, linking it to entropy, or the ever-increasing disorder of the universe as a whole. In the question and answer that followed, seen here, he distinguished entropy from complexity, or entropy from you and I - the complex, respiring systems capable of exchanging energy for information.
Complex systems are not closed.
