What is music but the sonic unfolding of beautiful math? - UC Santa Barbara Professor JoAnn Kuchera-Morin
Thinking about the upcoming IdeaFestival - it's almost here! - I was reminded of a unique project at the University of California at Santa Barbara, which has built an enormous dome to "visually and sonically" represent large data sets being generated by the sciences working on reality from the largest to the smallest scales. So rather than chunking "large tables of numbers," the new medium permits lets humans do what we do best: see patterns in living, breathing data.

What's more, the "Allosphere" offers that rare venue where students of engineering and the sciences and the arts can collaborate for the common purpose of discovery.
The IdeaFestival, much like the Allosphere, offers you a chance to see a common a reality from different perspectives. I hope to see you at IdeaFestival 2010 next week!
