Rest as creative act

Closing a design studio for the year? Leaving a phone message asking your clients to call back in 12 months? Designer Stefan Sagmeister describes his routine of spending one year in every seven away on sabbatical and some of the creative insights he has gained from the practice. Sure, not everyone can afford that kind of time away from the job. But the all-to-often ignored and essential point remains: routine rest is a creative act.
