"Lost Art of Letter Writing" wins Grawemeyer

Taking as its cue letters from the 19th Century, "The Lost Art of Letter Writing," a four-movement concerto for violin and orchestra by Australian composer Brett Dean, earned the 2009 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition. The University of Louisville Grawemeyer Awards are five annual $200,000 prizes given in the fields of music, political science, psychology, education and religion.

Like previous award winners, Dean will lecture at the University of Louisville. His event will be held from 3p to 4p tomorrow in Comstock Hall, School of Music, and is free and open to the public.
