Rejecting the innovation killer "prove it!", Roger Martin, Dean of the Rotman School in Toronto, asks leaders to take a fresh look at failure. In the sense he describes, to fail is to lack foresight or an ability to anticipate, a problem that has afflicted and may yet prove fatal to the U.S. auto industry. I also think that it's the core idea behind design thinking, which emphasizes serial conceptualizing. Bottom line: Now is a great time to innovate.
(Update): The BusinessWeek interview feed keeps running after Martin is finished, so you'll need to stop the video manually.
