Leaving in its demise a trove of science, the doughty spacecraft Phoenix has finally succumbed to the polar winter on Mars. To mark the occasion, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has put together this little video tribute:
Following an incredible descent to the surface of the planet, Phoenix later confirmed the presence of water ice and chemically analyzed the soil where it landed. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter also snapped the first image (and here) of a spacecraft's descent to another planet (think about it for moment), so even though I knew it was coming, it was with a twinge of sadness that I heard that it had expired. Yeah, I'm a nerd.
