Hitch a ride to orbit aboard Falcon-1 and watch the Earth slowly get smaller in this YouTube video.
The first privately developed rocket to reach space, the craft reached orbit on Sunday. But much more significantly, it and the heavier lift rockets planned by SpaceX could permanently alter the economics of space access by getting quick turnaround, cheap flights of crew and material to space. Not content to go in circles, Elon Musk, the man behind SpaceX, has his sight set the colonization of Mars, a goal also urged by Princeton astrophysicist, Kentucky native and IdeaFestival speaker J. Richard Gott last Saturday.
Wired has quite a bit more on Falcon's success.
