Schooling the imagination

I've had many occasions to return to a book that I've enjoyed "Sparks of Genius: The 13 Thinking Tools of the Worlds Most Creative People." Today I want to share with you some text from the initial chapter, words that sum for me what I find valuable about the IdeaFestival.

Our feelings - our intuitions - are not impediments to rational thinking. They form its origin and basis.... body and mind, emotion and intellect are inseparable.... Not only do scientist feel their way toward logical ideas, but creative thinking and expression in every discipline are born of intuition and emotion.

Full stop. This idea, lest you think it a mere platitude, is more and more accepted: Emotion is not simply a byproduct of sentient life. It makes human thought possible. Our heads require bodies.
