Industrial landscapes

Edward Burtynsky has an eye for industrial landscapes. The scale of some of these photographs is enormous, the images, particularly of the hulking ships in the scrap yards, a little otheworldly. If as one reviewer said the subjects in his work get noticed because they are idealized, I wonder how the idealized landscape of the future will appear as we leave this industrial and mechanized age. Will those images likewise jar the senses?
