In order to realize its potential, the web will have to be a place where organizational data is free - as in as transparent as possible - and personal data is portable and under the control of the individual. Swivel argues for the former, and just as syndication and email have standards, there is a movement afoot in various forums to develop standards to return control of personal data to individuals.
